Am 11. April 2008 eröffnet die TZR Galerie Kai Brückner die Ausstellung „Jezebel inside” der amerikanischen Künstlerin Carla Gannis. Sie befasst sich in ihren Arbeiten mit dem weiblichen Archetyp der Jezebel, eine alttestamentarische Figur, die lange nur als Symbol für Heidentum und Wolllust stand. In der Moderne steht sie zunehmend für Nonkonformismus, wie beispielsweise die Hauptperson in den Filmen „Jezebel” (1938) und „Vom Winde verweht” (1939). Heute ist sie mutige Rebellin, Verführerin und feministische Ikone in Büchern, Filmen und Liedern.

In Gannis großflächigen „new media” Kunstwerken erfindet sie Jezebel mittels digitaler Collagen fortwährend neu. Ihr dargestellter Typ Frau vereint dabei eine Vielzahl multidimensionaler Charaktere: die Nonkonformistin, die Schöne, die Revolutionärin, die Sexgöttin, das Opfer (Leibeigene, Sklavin) und die Superheldin. Gannis hebt ihre Figuren auf eine neu geschaffene Bühne, von wo aus sie Stärke, Intelligenz und Komplexität ausstrahlen. Sie triumphieren nunmehr über Mythologie, Geschichte und Stereotypen, die seit Generationen den Begriff von Weiblichkeit im kollektiven Unterbewusstsein geformt und definiert haben. Ihre Hauptfiguren tragen - wie das historische Vorbild - stets Rot, dies nicht nur die Lust oder Sexualität bezeichnend, sondern vielmehr als Ausdruck für Groll und Wut, Revolution und Mut, sich den Klischees zu widersetzen.

Die Ausstellung umfasst großformatige, digitale Drucke, eine Wandinstallation, eine lebensgroße Silhouette sowie eine interaktive digitale Arbeit in Spielform, die sowohl auf der Homepage der Galerie als auch in der Galerie selbst zu erfahren ist. Gannis präsentiert in ihren Arbeiten ihre persönliche, visuelle, zeitgenössische Neudeutung des Jezebel-Mythos. Die Interpretation des Themas mit Hilfe von computerbasierten Bildtechniken kann im Rahmen des digitalen Zeitalters nur als folgerichtig und konsequent angesehen werden.

On April 11th 2008 the exhibition „Jezebel inside” by the american artist Carla Gannis will open at the TZR Galerie Kai Brückner. Her work deals with the female archetype Jezebel - a figure of the old testament - which implied for many centuries heathenism and lust. In modernity she is increasingly linked to nonconformity as for example the main character in the movies „Jezebel” (1938) and „Gone with the Wind” (1939). Today Jezebel is multidimensional: a brave rebel, seductress, feminist icon expressed in books, films and musical interpretations.

In Gannis´ large.scale „new media” artwork she re-invents different aspects of the Jezebel persona via digital collages. A multitude of complex characters is unified in her representations: the nonconformist, the beauty, the rebel, the sex goddess, the victim (bondwoman, slave) and the super hero. Gannis lifts her figures on a newly-created stage from where they radiate strength, intelligence and complexity. They now triumph over mythology, history and stereotypes which have formed and defined in the collective subconsciousness the term of femaleness for generations. Her main characters wear red - just as the historic example, not only as a signifier of lust and sexuality, but as an expression of courage and revolution in resistance of the cliché.

The exhibition comprises large-scaled digital prints, a wall installation, a life-size silhouette and an interactive digital work in terms of a game which can be experienced on the website of the gallery as well as in the gallery itself. In her artwork Gannis expresses her contemporary re-interpretation of the Jezebel-myth through image and metaphor. In the context of the digital age the interpretation of this topic, with the help of computer-based techniques, is only logical and consequent.

Am 11. April 2008 eröffnet die TZR Galerie Kai Brückner die Ausstellung „Jezebel inside” der amerikanischen Künstlerin Carla Gannis. Sie befasst sich in ihren Arbeiten mit dem weiblichen Archetypen der Jezebel, einer alttestamentarischen Figur, die lange nur als Symbol für Heidentum und Wollust stand. Die Motive ihrer Arbeiten verankern Gannis Kunst stark in der Welt der Popkultur. Anregungen für ihre Szenarien findet die Künstlerin in Kinofilmen (Cinema Room, BDB, Turing Test, Peepbox J 01), Pop Songs (Queenie, Nascent) und in neuerer Zeit im Bereich der Computer- und Videospiele, wie zum Beispiel in ihrem interaktiven Spiel „Jbel 360”.

„Jbel 360”, in der Galerie auf dem Computer Bildschirm anzusehen, ist ein interaktives Spiel, erfunden und gestaltet von Carla Gannis und online auf der Homepage www.tzrgalerie.de zugänglich.

Gannis präsentiert in ihren Arbeiten ihre persönliche, visuelle, zeitgenössische Neudeutung des Jezebel-Mythos. Die Interpretation des Themas mit Hilfe von computerbasierten Bildtechniken, zum Teil als interaktives, weltweit frei zugängliches und sich erweiterndes Kunstwerk erscheint im Rahmen des digitalen Zeitalters als konsequent und zukunftsorientiert.
